The Star were hoping to bounce back following last weekend’s defeat but went down to a 1-0 to a bizarre goal from Oscar Taylor on 67 minutes.

Mark Collingwood gave teenager Bryan Taylor his first start for the Star in place of the unavailable skipper Tommy Bott.

Seaham had a bright start with Sayer and Taylor combining well down the left flank. Adam McHugh in the home goal was in early action keeping out efforts from Taylor and Lawson.

The home side grew int the game and good efforts from Owens and Jarvie were blocked by Jennison and Donnelly.

A pretty even and uneventful first half ended 0-0.

Seaham were forced into a change 2 minutes into the second period when Sayer was replaced by Mogan dart, the reshuffle saw Dart play down the middle with Pearn playing a wider role. Dart was quickly in the action and a good run and resulting shot was held by McHugh.

Aycliffe’s Costello and Wood had the upper hand in midfield and prompted a number of attacks which saw Jennison back in action, preventing Owens and Pettijean from giving the home side the lead.

The home goal finally arrived, and it was in strange circumstances. Wodd played a ball through the centre, Owens , who was in an offside position never attempted to play the ball as he was walking back onside. Seaham defenders were happy to allow the ball to run through to Jennison, however Taylor ran through from an on side position and saw his shot saved but followed up to put the rebound in an empty net.

Collingwood pushed centre back Donnelly up the park and gave a debut to Thomas Archibald in the last 10 minutes and the move almost paid off. A corner kick from Mark Robinson was met by Donnelly, and his headed effort brought a great save from McHugh.

The night got worse for the Star in the 94th minute when The assistant referee called match referee Mr Vincent over, the result of their conversation was a red card for Donnelly.

The game resumed with a free kick and as the ball was in flight the final whistle went giving the home side a 1-0 victory.
