Danny Sayer scores late equaliser to spare Star's blushes.

Danny Sayer popped up with an 89th minute goal to earn Seaham Red Star a 1-1 draw at home to Guisborough Town.

Guisborough were reduced to 10 men in the 33rd minute when Callum Martin saw red but took the lead with five minutes to go through Jack Blackford.

Sayer replied three minutes later to spare Seaham’s blushes, although Star were largely frustrated by the resilient visitors.

Mark Collingwood made three changes from the draw with Penrith, as Thomas Bott, James Robinson and Sayer replacing Mark Robinson, Joe Hailes and Mark Mcleod, with the latter returning to Hebburn this week from his loan spell.

The game started slowly for both sides, as neither team could gain true control of the ball, with Adam Lennox coming closest with a close range effort straight at Robert Dean.

The first big moment occurred on 33 minutes, as Callum Martin received a straight red for a suspected elbow, putting the visitors up against it.

Star controlled large parts of possession in the second half without creating anything clear cut, with their passing proving their biggest problem, with Liam Heywood coming close after hitting the crossbar.

Guisborough seized upon Star’s sloppiness to take the lead, as Blackford was played down the left wing before racing into the Star half, evading two Star defenders, before finding the top corner of Andrew Jennison’s net.

Star, however, broke through the Guisborough defence one minute from time as Sayer evaded several challenges before smashing the ball past Dean to earn Star a point.
