First-half goals see Star secure vital win at Hillheads

First-half strikes from Adam Lennox and Mark Robinson saw Seaham Red Star claim a dominant 2-0 victory over Whitley Bay at a blistery Hillheads Park.

Star exclusively dominated the first half and were rewarded after 20 minutes through Lennox before Robinson doubled the lead ten minutes before half time.

Whitley Bay looked to respond in the second half but offered very little in terms of a threat, as Star comfortably saw out the game and claimed a vital three points.

The win sees Seaham move up to 11th on 35 points, while Whitley Bay remain in 15th and cautiously looking over their shoulder after their eighth defeat in nine games.

On a day where most of the Northern League had been hit with postponements due to storm Malik, Star were able to make the journey across the River Tyne to face out-of-form Whitley Bay.

Mark Collingwood made two changes to the team that drew with Crook last week, with Louis Anderson and Daryll Donnelly replacing James Robinson and the suspended Liam Heywood.

Star were almost gifted the lead within ten minutes as a strong back pass was controlled horribly by Bay keeper Dan Lister, who was forced to clear off the line to spare his blushes.

However, Star’s good start was rewarded when Lennox was took out by Lister in the box. Lennox picked himself up to take the penalty and buried it into the corner for his 17th goal of the season.

Star then doubled their lead 15 minutes later in spectacular fashion, as Robinson picked the ball up 25 yards from goal before fizzing his effort into the bottom corner.

Star had their chances to increase their lead, the biggest coming from another back pass into Lennox, who failed to round Lister to score.

Whitley Bay offered little threat in response, with an offside effort from Shaun Dippenaar being their best effort, which was excellently saved by Andrew Jennison in the Seaham net.
