Seaham returned home without the points from Carlisle City, however, a good performance was badly hampered by some very bad refereeing decisions.

The Star started well with efforts from Dart and Sayer just off target. The home side started to get a foot in the game and were greatly assisted by referee David Mitchell when he awarded a goal in the 19th minute.

A tree times taken corner from the left was cleared by Max Nelson to just outside the area where Kevin Kelly collected and hit a shot that was going well wide, the ball ricochet off Carl Lawson and went past Jennison who’s view was clearly obstructed by Sam Atkinson was in an offside position in front of the keeper.

10 minutes later a hopeful punt caused Patterson problems and Kelly collected the bouncing ball his effort on goal should have been cleared but Pattersons miscue sent the ball back to Kelly wo forced the ball home to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.

Sayer looked to pull a goal back before the break but keeper Townsley denied him with a good save pushing the ball out for a corner.

Seham replaced Dart with Taylor at the start of the second period. Sayer was Seaham’s biggest threat and a cross to the far post was met by Bott but again Townsley was in the right spot to save.

Collingwood made more changes as the Star were chasing the game, Lawson replaced Page and Pearn took over from the injured Sayer. Carlisle were content to defend deep and chances were few and far between for Seaham.

Tommy Lawson was the victim of a horrendous tackle which saw Ryan Swales sent off, Paton replaced Lawson and the resulting free kick from Robinson flew narrowly wide.

Carl Lawson had the ball in then on 77 minutes before keeper Townsley scooped it back into play, but the referee didn’t believe it has crossed the line.

Carlisle skipper Dan Kirkup also picked up a red card when he clattered into Patton, sent off for leading with his elbow.

Townsley was in fine form making a number of good stops as Seaham pilled on the pressure.

With eight minutes to go Mr Mitchell sent Patterson into the sin bin for dissent, however, he forgot to bring him back into the game as added time of 5 minutes ran out and the final whistle was blown

A very frustrating afternoon for the Star, who were the better side but early referring decision cost Seaham the chance of picking anything up in Cumbria.
