A fantastic performance from the Star on a very heavy pitch saw the lads progress in the FA Vase thanks to a 4 goal victory.

The Star were in action for the first time in 6 weeks, and manager Mark Collingwood only made the one change with Danny Sayer replacing Taylor Richardson.

From the off, the hosts attacked down the slope and with the benefit of the wind. Striker, Connor Anderson was leading the line well and causing the Star defends a bit of a problem. Two early attacks from Barnton saw Anderson test Andy Jenniosn but the keeper was equal to both efforts. Seaham started to get a foothold in the game thanks to Mark Waite. The midfielder started to win a few battles and was keen to feed Tom Lawson and Andy Johnson.

After 20 minutes, Waite broke up an attack taking the ball of Ben Foster and drilling it into Johnson’s path, the Seaham striker slide the ball past onrushing keeper Aaran Lyons to give Seaham the lead.

Barnton’s Anderson had the ball in the Seaham net on the 33rd  minute but an obvious foul on Jennision was spotted by referee mr Robinson and the goal was ruled out. Seaham continue to press in the final 10 minutes of the half and Lyons had to push a shot from Sayer round the post.

The Star kicked off the second half with the wind and torrential rain at their backs. The opening minute saw a determined run and cross from Sayer met at the far post by Paul Gardiner to head home and double Seaham’s lead.

The home side were struggling to clear their lines and Seaham took advantage of an erro to score a third in the 64th minute. Athrow in for Barnton near their goal line was thrown in by William Avon to keeper Lyons, poor control by the keeper allowed Johnson to steal the ball and fire into the empty net.

Ten minutes later Thomas Bott added a fourth when he collected the ball from a corner kick in the home penalty area and drove the ball back across the box and into the far corner of the net. The hosts celebrated a consolation goal in the 88th minute but it was soon ruled out for offside by Mr Robinson.

A great 4-0 win for Seaham to book their place in the next round, however, Barnton played well on the day but Seaham were clinical to take their opportunities when they arose.

Seaham Red Star: Jennison, Hailes, Weldon, Waite, Bott, Hawkins, Sayer (Wood), Henderson, Johnson (Sullivan), Gardiner, Lawson (Blackburn)
