The Star returned from Northallerton with a point but very frustrated at being unable to break down a very resolute home defence.

Mark Collingwood made a couple of changes from last weekend’s team with David Henderson returning and Paul Weldon starting left out were Nathan Lawrence and Luke Sullivan.

Seaham started brightly with Jason Blackburn, eager to do well against his former side, hassling the home defenders at every opportunity. Northallerton keeper Tom Dawson was in the action early saving from Andy Johnson

The hosts first attack saw Michael Rae fired wide from a good position in front of goal then John Howard cut in from the right wing but his cross was well handled by Seaham’s Andrew Jennison.

On 25 minutes Northallerton’s Howard received a red card for a bad challenge on Danny Sayer, the Star’s Mark Waite was also red carded when he pushed Howard in the aftermath of the challenge.

The game started to settle down again with Seaham being the dominant side, however, Lawson is the home goal was equal to everything that thrown at him. 10 minutes before the break referee Sam Ross issued his third red card when he dismissed Northallerton’s Andrew Shepherd following a challenge on Paul Gardiner.

Half time 0-0

Seaham introduced Sullivan and Lawrence for Blackburn and Henderson at the start of the second half.

The whole of the second period saw Seaham mount attack after attack on the Northallerton side that decided to play seven men at the back and thwart the Star. The plan worked with Seaham unable to produce the final pass that would break through the packed defence. The Star attempted some long range efforts, particularly  from Thomas Bott  that went narrowly wide or were well saved by Dawson.

Seaham had two good shouts for a penalty, firstly when Johnson appeared to be fouled then for a hand ball as Gardiners goal bound effort was blocked by Daniel Jones’s arm.

With 8 minutes remaining the only attack of the half from the hosts saw a free kick from Brad Plant fumbled by Jennison who recovered the ball just before the Northallerton substitute Matty Crust could reach it.

Full time 0-0
