Sean McRoberts double either side of half-time, including a 30-yard screamer, coupled with first-half David Robinson and Dan Wilson efforts secured a third successive victory for The Star on Wednesday night at the Glebe Sports Ground, with Jonathan Burn and Max Cowburn halving the deficit for the hosts in the final half an hour.

Mark Collingwood’s side looked confident from the off, reflecting their recent form.

Within the first 15 minutes, they came close four times. Robinson shot narrowly over in the 7th minute after driving forward, Coulson then twice forced his way into a one-on-one position impressively but was twice denied well by Kieran Proctor and Wilson too then forced the goalkeeper into a sharp stop.

David Henderson was next to be denied by him on 23 minutes, as he forced his close-range attempt behind, but the pressure told soon after.

Henderson found Robinson 30-yards out a minute later, the captain evaded one opponent and then drilled a low-shot in at the near-post.

Chris Bannon was forced into a good stop of his own at the other end by Daniel Cranston in the 29th minute before McRoberts notched his first and Seaham’s second.

He burst beyond a marker on the right in the 34th minute and his right-footed cross-shot floated over Proctor and into the far-corner.

The hosts refused to lye down and Matthew Pattison rifled a 20-yard free-kick just wide shortly before half-time, but it would be the visitors who struck again ahead of the break.

Richard Coulson’s 25-yard shot hit the right-hand post, then the left, rolled across the goal-line and was forced over it and in by Wilson before Proctor could claw it out.

Wilson would be forced off with a muscle injury three minutes into the second-period but moments after that the game’s outstanding moment would arrive.

McRoberts was the source. He was found in an inside-right position by Robinson’s intelligent switch in the 50th minute and, after getting the ball out of his feet, fired a brilliant 30-yard right-footed shot into the top-left corner.

Bannon made another good stop 10 minutes later to keep out Lee McAndrew from point-blank range but Whickham got themselves on the scoresheet soon after.

Jonathan Burn strode out of defence in the 64th minute and saw a 30-yard deflected shot find the top-left corner.

Cowburn’s deflected free-kick would make it 2-4 in the 82nd minute, which offered a fairer reflection of the hosts’ efforts on the night, even if it was somewhat harsh on the visitors’ defensive ones.

The Star saw the remaining minutes out nonetheless, securing another impressive victory after another superbly rounded display.
