Manager Mark Collingwood was forced into fielding another patched up team due to injuries, holidays and suspensions. Aaron Steavens replaced the suspended Chris Bannon in goal, new signings Paul Gardiner and Alex Sakellaropious were included alongside a 90% fit Anthony Myers in the starting line up.

Only 4 minutes into the game and influential midfielder David Henderson had to be replaced by Josh Winthrop. The Star were under pressure from the start and Steavens was forced into an early save from Kyle Patton. Seaham’s back four defended well and restricted the hosts to long distance shots that were easily dealt with by Steavens. The deadlock was broke in the 30th minute. A left wing cross from Conor Campbell found Patton in space and the striker forced the ball home from 8 yards to give North Shields the lead.

The hosts continued to press but squandered a few opportunities before Seaham got back into the game. A good spell of attacking play saw the Star win 4 corners in a five minute spell before the interval. It was from the 4th corner that Dan Wilson equalised, rising high at the far post and heading Richard Coulson’s kick into the top corner making it 1 - 1 at half time.

The second half started in similar fashion as the first with North Shields having a lot of possession but not really troubling Steavens in the Seaham goal. A good passage of play for Shields saw them take the lead in the 70th minute, Home skipper Ryan Carr found Patton in space on the right, the lively striker cut inside, evaded a tackle from Winthrop and tried to find Campbell in the box, the ball bounced up against the arm of Myers and rferee Mr Joyce awarded a penalty. Patton stepped up but his kick was blocked by Steavens then Patton followed up and netted the rebound.

Collingwood introduced Dart and Taylor and the Star started to impose themselves on the game, Winthrop had a shot from distance held by home keeper Greg Purvis. Wilson had a good effort blocked and Dart shot narrowly wide. Seaham dominance in the closing minutes brought them a late equaliser. Richardson fed the ball through to Coulson who’s first time effort came back of the post and Paul Gardiner reacted quickest to slot the ball home from the rebound.

Against all the odds, the Star came away with a point thanks to a gritty performance. Man of the Match Paul Weldon did a great job in the heart of the defence.
