Seaham Red Star suffered their fourth-straight league defeat, despite being the better team during their 2-0 loss to league-leaders Dunston UTS.

The hosts were unfortunate not to break the deadlock themselves before UTS did just that, against the run of play, through Jack Elliott on 29 minutes.

Dan Wilson’s goal, on the stroke of half-time, was ruled out for a handball in the build-up as the Star were down at the break.

Seaham pushed the title-chasers all the way, but Dunston wrapped up the victory when Jake Stafford found the bottom corner late in the game.

The Star are without a game for two weeks now, their next match is at home to Whitley Bay on December 22.

Manager Mark Collingwood made a few changes to the team that conceded seven goals against Consett last weekend and he also changed the shape too.

David Robinson went close inside the opening five minutes before the hosts forced Dunston ‘keeper Karl Dryden into making a great save on 13 minutes.

Liam McNamara drove out from the back and played the ball up to Dan Wilson, who nutmegged the defender before his shot was pushed wide by the ‘keeper.

The resulting corner was played into the box and almost went directly into the net, but Dryden scrambled back to punch the ball clear.

It was a great reaction from the disappointing loss last weekend, Robinson’s corner was headed narrow wide by Anthony Myers on 21 minutes.

Dunston’s first opening arrived shortly after as Liam Brooks struck narrowly wide, but the hosts continued in search of an opener, threatening the league-leaders.

Anthony Myers’ brilliant long-range effort was matched by an even better save before Liam Gillesphey’s acrobatic strike went inches wide.

The visitors broke out from the back and took the lead against the run of play.. Seaham’s corner was cleared and UTS countered effectively.

Mark Fitzpatrick’s flick helped the ball on to the path Elliott, who took it in his stride before striking past Andy Hunter and into the bottom corner.

The Star responded well straight after that and closed out the first-half strongly, Donnelly’s header was cleared off the line before McNamara’s follow-up effort was gathered by Dryden.

Seaham thought they’d found an equaliser, on the stroke of half-time, but Wilson’s goal was ruled out for a handball.

Robinson’s thumping strike looked to be heading into the top-corner on 55 minutes, but swirved narrowly wide, hitting the side-netting.

Elliott, Fitzpatrick and Jordan Nellis threatened to double Dunston’s lead after the hour mark, but the hosts stood strong and went search of an equaliser.

Jon Weirs’ cross-come-shot from the right side floated across and looked like it had caught the ‘keeper off his line, but Dryden got back and pushed the ball over the bar.

The points were wrapped up for the league-leaders, seven minutes from time, when Stafford played a neat one-two with Cieran Jackson, in the penalty area, and struck across and into the bottom corner.
