Mark Collingwood named an unchanged team for the visit of one of the Northern League’s top sides.

The visitors shown their intent to attack from the off and had their first opening in the 2nd minute when Seaham’s Hunter was forced to tip a fierce drive from Nathan Fisher round the post, the resulting corner saw Amar Purewal head over. The Star defence withstood further attacks with both Myers and Hutchinson working hard to keep the visiting strikers at bay. Seaham broke down the left flank and Palmer fed the ball to Lee Hetherington, the Seaham striker turned inside Parker and fired home form a tight angle to give the Star the lead on 11 minutes. The goal lifted the home side and visiting keeper Bland was forced into saving from Gash. West started to get a grip on the game with Portas and Dodds controlling the midfield, however, good chances were rare until the 40th minute when Purewal equalised with a close range effort following a block by Hutchinson. The sides went in all square at 1-1.

Seaham had the better of the opening exchanges of the second period with both Jewitt and Gardner forcing good saves out of Bland, the Star were having their best period in the game and were unlucky not to regain the lead when Palmer fired over from the edge of the box. West came back into the game with the introduction of former Red Star player Denver Morris, the tricky winger start getting crosses into the penalty area but Hutchinson and Myers were in commanding form and won most of the aerial battles. Seaham created a good opening with 10 minutes remaining but Bland was equal to the shot from Gash. With 3 minutes remaining the visitors almost stole the points, a long punt from Bland as met by Purewal who lifted the ball over the advancing Hunter, however, Myers raced back to clear the ball two yards from the goal line.

A well deserved point for Seaham against a side that will be competing for the title come April. An all round team performance won the point but special mention for Aidam Hutchinson for a solid game at the heart of the Seaham defence.
