The Star opened their programme of friendlies with a 1-0 win aginst newly promoted to the 2nd division side, Recar Athletic.

With a few players still unavailable, manager Mark Collingwood, was still able to field a strong side and have a few younsters on the bench.

The Star opened well with Lee Hetherington, David Palmer and Paul Gardiner linking up well in the attacking third of the pitch. Seaham took the lead on 20 minutes when a firce shot from Hetherington was parried by the visiting keeper, Hetherington reacted quickest and forced the rebound home from six yards.

Seaham dominated the first half and deservedly went in a goal up.

The second period saw a number of changes for both teams which had an effect on the flow of the game but with no more goals the result saw the Star win 1-0.

After the game Assistant manager Paul Frame said there were a lot of positives to take from the run out and it was good to see that the players worked hard in their first game together. He also praised Redcar for their part in making it an entertaining game.

Next up is Tuseday night at home to Sunderland West End - kick off 7:30
