A late penalty rescued a hard fought point for Seaham against West Auckland. The home side scored first on eighteen minutes when Wearmouth crossed to the back post and Rutherford fired home but it was soon all square when Harrison slid the ball under the keeper and that was how it stayed until the interval. Fourteen minutes from the end the visitors took the lead when Mitchell scored from a deflected free kick but only two minutes later the hosts were back on level terms when they were awarded a penalty and Hailes converted. The home side came close to winning the game in the last minute when Lawson’s effort went just wide from thirty yards but both teams had to settle for a point each.
