Seaham suffered their first defeat in five league games as they were beaten away at Redcar Athletic 1-0 in blustery conditions.

The goal for the home side was scored by Isaac Walker towards the halfway point of the first half.

In a game dominated by the wind there were few clear cut opportunities for either side on the North Yorkshire coast.

Seaham started the match with much of the ball and nine minutes in a scramble in the box saw the ball fall to Adam Lennox but his shot was deflected wide.

Minutes later Redcar received their first chance as Nicholas Martin found himself one-on-one but was denied by Andrew Jennison’s outstretched leg.

Seaham then had the ball in the Redcar net after Josh Baggs found his corresponding wingback Joe Hailes with a cross but his finish was ruled out instantly by the assistants flag.

The deciding goal came in the 17th minute as a long ball was held up in the wind which Isaac Walker latched on to and dispatched from an acute angle past the Red Star shot-stopper.

The only other notable first half chance was on the half hour mark with Adam Lennox firing from 20 yards but his shot was well saved by Redcar goalkeeper Matthew Bateman down to his right.

The second half saw Seaham have wind against their favour in what was already an uphill battle.

The first Seaham chance of the second half was a well worked move as Josh Baggs played a wonderfully weighted long ball which eventually found Joe Hailes but his shot was tame.

Seaham were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Redcar area with 25 minutes to play however Mark McLeod couldn’t keep his strike down.

The biggest second half chance was for Redcar as a cross found Isaac Walker who fired low and hard from six yards but was denied by a tremendous reflex stop by Jennison.

The game was starved of chances from then on and saw Seaham leave Green Lane empty handed.
