Seaham manager Mark Collingwood went into tonight’s game against promotion hopefuls Consett without 5 of his regular first team players, Mark Waite, David Henderson, Scott Young, Danny Sayer and Jason Blackburn. Worse was to follow just prior to kick off when Luke Sullivan was also forced to miss the game against his former team.

Sean McRoberts, Nathan Greenwood, Dan Hailes, Taylor Richardson and Alex Morland came in to make their seasonal debuts.

The makeshift side were caught out in a hectic start with the visitors opening up a two goal lead within 15 minutes. Both goals were similar in that crosses from the hosts left wing weren’t dealt with and both Simon Jakab and Ross Wilkinson were allowed to stab home loose balls that were bouncing around the six yard box.

The Star slowly got into the contest with some good prompting from fullbacks Hailes and Weldon and an effort from Johnson went narrowly wide. Consett almost went 3 up when Dale Pearson’s effort flew over the cross bar. Seaham came back and got themselves back in the game in the 28th minute, Nathan Lawrence threaded a ball between the visitors centre backs and Johnson raced onto it and drove the ball past Hayes in the Consett goal.

Consett’s Ali Alshabeeb and Seaham’s Sean McRoberts went into the referees’ book after a coming together on 32 minutes. Alshabeeb hit the post with a terrific drive just before the break.

Half Time 1-2

A quick start to the second period took the game away from the Star when Calvin Smith and then Jake Orrell netted for the visitors in the 51st and 52nd minutes. Seaham fought hard to get into the game but the Consett defenders were easily in control and restricting the home side to long range efforts.

Collingwood introduced Dan Hailes and Alex Morland to try and wrestle some of the control back from the visitors midfield but Consett increased their lead in the 63rd minute when Darren Holden raced down the left flank before cutting in and driving the ball past Jennison.

Dan Hawkins pulled a goal back in the 78th minute when keeper Hayes pushed Weldons free kick into Hawkins path. Consett substitute Matthew Cornish immediately restore the 4 goal advantage when he pushed the ball past Jennison.

Consett deserved their victory having played some great football on the night, to be fair Seaham got away lightly in conceding only 6 goals.
