The Star opened their league campaign with a goal less draw against Whickham.

Both sides struggled to settle in blustery conditions at Seaham Town Park. The visitors were first to show when Jack Robson collected a through ball from Conor Newton and fired his shot narrowly wide. Dale Burrell had the next opportunity but dragged his shot wide when well placed. Then Seaham keeper Andy Jennison was forced into a good save from a Robson 25 yard free kick when he pushed it over the bar.

The Seaham attack was rarely seen in the opening 20 minutes, Joe Hailes initiated Seaham’s first chance with a cross from the right that Andy Johnson just failed to reach in front of goal. The Star took encouragement from this and a good strike from Sullivan travelled just wide.

Approaching the break Robson was back int the action, cutting in from the left flank he curled a ball round Jennison and struck the cross bar.

Half Time 0-0

Jack Robson caused more issues for the home side when he saw another one of his efforts cannon off the post just outside the box before the rebound bounced off the goalkeeper and out five minutes after half-time.

Red Star hit back minutes later as they broke Whickham’s high line with Andy Johnson racing through on goal but debutant goalkeeper Regan Ward kept the away side on level terms.

With 20 minutes left Andy Johnson missed another chance to score after a scramble from a long ball found its way to the striker twice with the first effort being blocked and the second dragged wide of the post.

Paul Gardiner had a two good chances to open the scoring, a cross from Sullivan was met by Gardiner but his effort went the wrong side of the post. Minutes later a loose ball fell to Gardiner but his shot was straight at Regam who saved easily.

Both sides went back and forth for the last 10 minutes with the best chance of the final moments falling to 16-year old Declan Bisset for Whickham, with nearly six minutes left as Scott McCarthy pulled the ball back to Bisset but the youngster could only slice it wide.
