More changes were forced upon Mark Collingwood, Liam Gillesphey was serving a one match ban, Richie Coulson was on holiday and Morgan Dart was unavailable. Manager Collingwood brought in Mattie Wade, Michael Chilton and returned Chris Bannon back in goal.

The Star kicked off and went straight on the attack, and a cross from Scott Young was just over the head of Dan Wilson. Seaham continued to press and home keeper Ben Parkinson was forced into a full length dive to tip away an effort from Wade after 10 minutes. Nelson slowly got into the game and centre forward Gareth Hill had a shot that went narrowly wide. The hosts took the lead against the run of play on 38 minutes with a well worked corner kick routine. Teal Amos took the kick and picked out Joe Garvin at the edge of the box, Garvin helped the ball wide to skipper Charlie Lloyd, who was unmarked and fired past Bannon. The Star pressed for an equaliser but squandered chances. Parkinson and his defenders were blatantly wasting time at every opportunity and looked happy to try and hang on for a 1-0 win. Just before the break Michael Chilton broke through the home defence but Parkinson blocked his shot.

The second half again saw the Star start well and the hosts, and keeper in particular wasting time. Seaham equalised in the 57^th minute when keeper Parkinson was again dwelling on the ball and gifted it to Wilson who was apply pressure to the keeper, Wilson gratefully accepted the chance and rolled the ball into the unguarded net. Referee Miss Briggs reduced the Star to 10 men by issuing a second yellow card to Joe Hailes after 80 minutes. The hosts started to stretch Seaham defenders and Bannon was forced into a couple of good saves, and it was now Seaham’s turn to hang on. Collingwood introduced Richardson and Winthrop and the two youngsters had an immediate impact in helping The Star to finish the game 1=1.

Collingwood encouraged his players to go for the win in extra time and Winthrop broke through the home defence only to see Parkinson cover his drive. Seaham’s pressure told in the 105^th minute, Gardiner drove at the home defence and fed a great pass through to Winthrop who saw his shot blocked but Gardiner was on hand to fire the rebound home. The second period of extra time saw the introduction of two more strikers from the hosts with their intention to bombard the 10 men of Seaham. The 109^th saw the Star make it 3-1 with a great break away goal. David Robinson won a tackle at the edge of his own area and raced upfield, two defenders tried to take him out on the half way line, but Robinson evaded the challengers and pressed on into the home penalty area, he cut the ball back to Chilton, who had the simplest task of pushing the ball into the net.

A tremendous performance from the Star players, got the result against all the odds, down to 10 men, a very poor performance from the referee, who’s decisions tendered to favour the home side. The introduction of substitutes Winthrop and Richardson gave Seaham some much needed energy and lifted the rest of the team.
