Seaham Red Star were disappointed after the loss today against Guisborough Town in their opening game of the season..

Following a bright opening a shot from Michael Chilton in the 7th minute was tipped away by the Guisborough Town goalkeeper Ryan Catterick

Catterick showed great athleticism to pull off a world class save to deny Richie Coulson in what looked like a certain goal in the 12th minute. Dan Wilson held the ball up well inside the visitors penalty area before rolling in to Coulson, who wasted no time in getting his shot away.

Guisborough opened up the home defence in the 17th minute, and Earl was allowed to turn and fire a shot on target which Chris Bannon held onto.

12 minutes later it was Guisborough’s Sonni Colemans turn to test Bannon and again the Seaham keeper was up to the task as he kept out Coleman’s strike

The Star broke down the left, Paul Weldon’s Picked out striker Wilson who in turn drove past Marshall and sent a cross into the box from the bye line, keeper Catterick did well to push the ball clear and the chance went begging.

Guisborough Town continued to work tirelessly and were rewarded with the game’s opening goal in the 41st minute. Referee Mr Pill could have halted the game when a number of tough challenges went in from both sides, however, it let them go and the ball reached John Howard out on the left flank, the winger cut inside and steered the ball past Bannon and into the corner of the goal.

Seaham Red Star had to replace the injured Matty Tumilty with Scott Young after 68 minutes, the introduction of the full back lifted the home crowd and the players reacted immediately. David Robinson brought the save of the game out of Catterick with a 25-yard drive that as heading for the top corner till the keeper brought out an acrobatic save.

Seaham Red Star Manager Mark Collingwood introduced Morgan Dart for his debut at the expense of Michael Chilton in the 73rd minute.

Coleman went close on 75 minutes, good work from McAvoy down the left set up the chance for the striker, but again Bannon did well to hold the shot.

What a save! It looked a sure goal as soon as Liam Gillhesphey met Wilson’s cross in the 83rd minute, but Catterick pulled off a top quality save to deny the Red Star defender’s attempt to equalise.

The visitors took advantage of Seaham attacking and scored a second goal in the 86th minute. Joe Ferguson finished of a quick counterattack when Coleman set him up with chance to fire in from 12 yards.
